Jordan McComb has had one of the strangest, yet greatest careers in Lasell’s women’s lacrosse history. She has had two years of eligibility given back, and she has dominated all teams in her path to greatness.
Looking back to her freshman year, people could tell that she was something special. She recorded 28 goals that season and looking towards her second season, big things were expected. Her brilliant play won her the GNAC Championship freshman of the year award.
McComb’s sophomore year got off to a great start with eight points in five games, until a torn labrum sidelined her for the remainder of the season. Luckily for McComb, she was able to get that year of eligibility back.
Coming back from injury is never an easy thing to do. Sometimes it can limit play or stick in a player’s head that will cause them to play things safe. McComb showed that her mindset was to go hard every game and not let the previous injury hold her back. She scored 53 goals in 17 games to help lead Lasell to the GNAC championship game, where they fell short to Johnson and Wales.
Coming up short is always a tough pill to swallow. Many use that as fuel to do bigger and better things the following year. McComb used that and turned into one of the most dominant players Lasell had ever seen. McComb scored 77 her junior season, which is ranked No. 5 on the all-time list for most goals in a year. That year, the team was knocked out in the semifinals in a one goal defeat to Regis College.
Once again coming up short, many players look deeper. They will find something that will make them hungrier for success. The ultimate goal is to be crowned a champion. Some of the best in Lasell’s history have had the honor to be a GNAC champion. McComb came out on fire, scoring 12 goals in two games. She was on a mission. She was on pace to smash some Lasell goal-scoring records then COVID-19 hit, halting the season and almost ending McComb’s career at Lasell.
The NCAA’s decision to give the year of eligibility back to players impacted by the pandemic gives McComb one more chance to lead her team to the promised land, a GNAC championship.
Now it’s time for her sixth and final year. Everyone is excited to see what McComb brings to the table this season. She is already in the top ten on most of Lasell’s all-time record lists. At this point, all she can do is continually add to her resume and prove why she is one of the greatest at Lasell to play the sport.
